Autonomous delivery robots released in Spain’s capital Madrid
MADRID, SPAIN - NOVEMBER 25: Autonomous and electric robots, with four wheels, a large warehouse and capable of crossing traffic lights, began their home shopping deliveries for the first time in Spain, recently. The testing phase of this new work for androids, owned by the company Goggo Network, also began in July, in collaboration with the Dia and Telepizza chains, where the security of the service was verified. The new distribution system is activated when the customer gives his order directly through the applications or the websites of both collaborators."The truth is that, it is very practical because I usually order the purchase online from the supermarket. It is very convenient and very comfortable because you order it online,” said one of the client Alejandro De Laverda.“I have it at the door of the house. They simply notify you with a text message open a link you can open the door automatically and pick up your order and you get on it. It is very comfortable and I order every time I can,” he added. With no additional cost for the service, the customer receives notice that the robot will be in charge of the delivery. The 'body' of the robot is loaded with the requested purchase in bags and once the coordinates have been entered, the android sets off to reach the same destination door for the customer to pick up their order. This robot works with mapping technology and is capable of overcoming obstacles such as pedestrians that it may encounter on the sidewalk.“Basically, in Goggo network, when we receive an order from a client to move some goods from the restaurant or supermarket to the final client, that order enters in our system, in our platform,” said Carlos Ortiz, operation manager in Goggo company. The platform selects the most optimal robot to deliver the item depending on the type of good, the size and the volume. It can reach up to five kilometers per hour and, although it is based on autonomous technology, it has people who supervise its operation for certain obstacles such as pedestrian crossings. It works with batteries that last between five and 12 hours depending on the robot and when these run out, the android returns to the logistics center where the battery is replaced with a recharged one.Safety is based on its weight, between 60 and 100 kilos, which prevents it from being easily lifted and thus prevents theft, as well as its watertight interior compartment. In addition, they have a satellite geolocation system.
