SKOPJE, NORTH MACEDONIA - JULY 17: A view of Matka Canyon located about 1 hour from Skopje, North Macedonia on July 17, 2021. Matka Canyon, a popular destination for tourists, attracts attention with its natural beauties. The canyon which spans an area of approximately 500 hectares hosts Treska river passes where Matka dam is located at the end. About 20 percent of the plant species are endemic and also there are 77 species of butterflies unique to this region. The visitors can take a boat tour, and on the high rocks of the canyon, mountaineers are allowed to perform alpine style climbing. There are 10 caves in the canyon, the lengths of which vary between 20 and 176 meters. In certain time intervals of the year, the canyon is completely covered with fog. The canyon serves for the visitors with 7 days 24 hours basis without entrance fee.
