GAZA, PALESTINE - MARCH 20: Palestinians in central Gaza performed Eid al-Fitr prayers on Friday, March 20, for the third consecutive year gathered around the remains of the Ibn Taymiyyah Mosque, which was destroyed in Israeli attacks.Residents from the Deir al-Balah area congregated at the site of the leveled mosque early in the morning. This year marked the third consecutive Ramadan under Israeli restrictions. Israel did not allow sufficient aid to enter Gaza despite an agreement and continues to deprive Palestinians in Gaza of the most basic humanitarian needs. Before the attacks that began in October 2023, Eid celebrations in Gaza were traditionally vibrant, but ongoing hardship has made it increasingly difficult for families to uphold these traditions. Many residents said they were unable to prepare for the holiday as they once did, citing economic hardship and lack of access to food and clothing.About 1.9 million of Gaza’s 2.4 million residents remain displaced and live in worn tents lacking basic necessities after Israel destroyed their homes during the war.Although a ceasefire agreement took effect on Oct. 10, 2025, living conditions have not significantly improved, with Israel continuing to block the entry of aid shipments and shelter materials, including tents and mobile homes.Israel launched its military campaign on Oct. 8, 2023, killing more than 72,000 Palestinians, wounding over 171,000 others, and devastating civilian infrastructure.
