Oak wood converted into charcoal in Turkish capital
ANKARA, TURKIYE - AUGUST 24: An aerial view of a wood charcoal workers work at a wood charcoal production site in Cubuk district of Turkish capital Ankara on August 24, 2022. Wood charcoal production workers begin their works with the first lights of the day, where oak wood is converted into coal. Wood charcoal workers called in Turkish as "Torakci". Families, who come to Cubuk district for charcoal production from Mardin and spend about 6 months of the year here, continue their lives in makeshift tents they set up temporarily. The workers, who carefully burn the oak wood in pits called "torluk" in Turkish, keep watch by the fire for 20 days. At all these stages, female wood charcoal workers continue to work with the men in the family by the fire.
