Portuguese Festival of Our Lady in Sorrow back after 2 years of pandemic
VIANA DO CASTELO, PORTUGAL- AUGUST 18: Hundreds of women dressed in traditional folk clothing from their regions walk together carrying their family gold during the Mordomia Parade part of the Festival of Our Lady in Sorrow in Viana do Castelo, Portugal on August 18, 2022. After 2 years break due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the biggest folk religious festival in Portugal gets back to the pre-pandemic formula, bringing one million visitors to the city during the 4 days celebrations. The Mordomia parade, one of the highlights of the festival, brings more than 700 women carrying their family gold through the city streets. This year it is estimated that the gold carried by the women estimates almost 100 million euros.
