FAIRBANKS, ALASKA, USA - MARCH 20, 2026: A powerful geomagnetic storm illuminated the night sky on Friday, March 20, as the Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights, reached as far south as the mid-latitudes of the United States.Charged particles from the sun interacted with Earth’s magnetic field.The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) reported that the event reached G2 (Moderate) and G3 (Strong) geomagnetic storm levels overnight.While Alaska experienced the most intense overhead displays, the aurora was documented in 18 U.S. states,
