Traditional Quranic schools, khalwas in Sudan
OMDURMAN, SUDAN - JANUARY 15: Children are seen during their classes at a khalwa, traditional religious school in Omdurman, Sudan on January 15, 2022. In the khalwa in Omdurman 152 children have gathered to study Islam's holy book and acquire religious teaching. Khalwas are traditional religious schools and have existed for hundreds of years in Sudan. At these khalwas, children study and memorize the Quran, read and write Arabic and study Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence).
