Turkish F-16 goes beyond its limits by performing Cobra Maneuver
KONYA, TURKIYE - MAY 22: The aerobatics display team of the Turkish Air Force managed to perform the "Cobra Maneuver" for the first time in the world with an F-16 fighter jet.SOLOTURK, which has been successfully performing many different maneuvers for 11 years, performed a cobra maneuver with an F-16 jet.Major Emre Mert, the pilot of the aircraft that performed the maneuver, said they were able to perform this maneuver thanks to long-term training and technical works.Underlining that the nozzle system at the rear of the aircraft should be dynamic in order to perform this maneuver, Mert said since this system is immobile in F-16 jets, it is technically almost impossible to perform this maneuver. He stressed that by performing this maneuver at low altitude and at low speed, the Turkish team ensured that the F-16 jet exceeded its own capacity.Lastly, he added that they would use this maneuver in their upcoming shows. The cobra maneuver, also known as dynamic deceleration, is a dramatic and demanding maneuver in aerobatics.A jet flying at a high speed quickly slows down and suddenly raises its nose to a vertical. In this way, the jet makes a full-body air brake and hangs in the air for a very short time before dropping back to normal position. Thus, the jet can quickly get behind the warplane chasing it.This maneuver cannot be performed by some aircraft in terms of technique and capacity.
