Türkiye’s ancient Ephesus city offers journey into the past at night
IZMIR, TÜRKİYE - MAY 1: Türkiye’s iconic ancient Ephesus city has begun to welcome its visitors until midnight thanks to renewed lighting under the Night Museology system.Ephesus, previously an ancient Greek city, and later a major Roman settlement near present-day Selcuk in the coastal Izmir province, boasts a rich cultural heritage dating back to 6,500 BC.The unique beauties of the ancient city, which attracts millions of visitors every year, can be visited after sunset as of April 9 with the 'Night Museology' system that was put into practice by the Türkiye’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism.The ancient city was illuminated with LED lighting system to allow tourists, who prefer the beaches during the day due to the high temperatures, to visit the museums in the cool hours of the evening.The new route includes Liman Street, theater, marble street, Celcus Library, Yamacevler and Hadrian Temple.There is an over 2,300-year-old theater, which has a seating capacity of approximately 24,000 people, will host a maximum of 2,400 - 2,500 people at each event due to measures taken against coronavirus.Ephesus was added to UNESCO’s prestigious World Heritage List in 2015.
