VAN, TURKIYE - APRIL 27: A white fluffy cat, named Mia, the winner of the Cat Beauty Contest of 2022, surprises visitors with its black kitten which she gave birth three days ago.Mia, who won the first place among 32 cats in the 6th Van Cat Beauty Contest, which was held in Van last month, is a Van cat which stand out with their friendliness, white and silky fur, lion's walk, long and fluffy tail and different eye colors.Populations of the most of the Van cats, which were kept under protection in Van Cat Research and Application Center of Van Yuzuncuyil University, increased.Thanks to the efforts, three days ago, Mia gave birth to four kittens which one of them was black.“Mia gave birth to kittens three days ago. People ask about Mia, as she is a winner and when we say that she gave birth, they are shocked, requiring to see her. Visitors are able to see Mia and her kittens from afar in the room at the entrance,” said Mehmet Atar Bayir, who is responsible for cats in the center.Some visitors tried to watch the kitten, which stands out with its black color among the white fluffy kittens, from afar and to record it with their mobile phones.One of the visitors Sabriye Ecer said, “I am very happy to be here. We've heard Mia's name before. We came to see it and we are very excited. We are lucky to see her with her kittens.”The difference in the color of the kitten is due to mixed genes, according to the head of the center, Prof. Abdullah Kaya."Cats that are mixed with other cats at any time and taken under protection in our center can maintain that gene difference. From time to time, kittens in black, gray and brown tones may be born,” he said.
