Low water level at Danube River in Romania
GIURGIU, ROMANIA - AUGUST 20: Commercial ships are anchored on the Danube river nearby Giurgiu in Southern Romania on August 20, 2022. The Danube river, second longest river in Europe, has reached historically low levels after extreme drought affecting the countries it flows through. On the Romanian section for the river commercial and touristic navigation has been restricted. Only ships with a hull immersion level of 1.3 m can safely operate, with larger ships being forced to drop anchor and wait for the water level to rise.
